maisha Newsletter 2025

Dear sponsors, friends and supporters of Maisha,

Greetings and blessing for 2025 to you and your family members from the entire maisha family. We are delighted to send to you our latest newsletter with all the most recent updates on what has been happening at the home and in the lives of the maisha children and young adults.

Children updates

Most of the Maisha children have matured physically and emotionally and have been studying very hard.
Last year, two of our Maisha students finished their secondary school education and one started secondary school. The two that finished secondary school have joined Technical training colleges in certificate levels. One is pursuing electrical and electronics engineering and the other one car mechanics.

Currently we have three students attending Secondary school who have all been working very hard with the aim to join university or a good college. Our other students studying in technical colleges are performing to their best ability. One is about to start an industrial training course. If all goes well, one of our university attendees, will be graduating by the end of this year. The others have another one to two years to go.

All in all we are pleased and proud of the hard work that they are all putting into their studies.

maisha farming projects
In our last newsletter, we appealed for donations to purchase the right equipment to enable us to grow more farm produce allowing Maisha to become increasingly self-sustainable. We are so grateful for those who answered this plea and made generous donations which helped us raise funds for the equipment that we needed.  Amongst other things, we added a tank, installed a drip irrigation method and bought another cow. With the waste produce from the animals, we are now able to produce a bio gas. This means we no longer need to use firewood as we did in the past. We are thrilled to have been able to move towards a more environmental friendly way of cooking.

We were also able to install solar panels and a battery thanks to the successful fundraising efforts of one of our ambassadors. This has had a huge impact on both the children’s’ studies and also on our agriculture. We used to have to pay huge electricity bills but since we are now producing our own, we have managed to save significant costs in this area.

The above-mentioned improvements have permitted us to grow our own fruit, vegetables and legumes.
Last but not least, we have been privileged to have a great team at the maisha home who have worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth running of the home, making sure that everyone is comfortable and doing well and that the farming is done correctly.

Future plans
Our Maisha children continue to thrive and mature. So far we have been able to help five of our young adults to move out of the home and make the transition into adulthood and independence as smooth as possible. Some have their own small businesses for upkeep and others are employed in various industries and we look forward to helping more of our young adults enter the professional world and become independent, responsible citizens in the next year or so.
With the resources that we already have and especially with our borehole, we are hoping to start a water packaging project that will act as a support system to the Maisha family and perhaps even become a source of employment for them in the future.

As more of our young adults will undoubtedly be leaving the home to embark on careers and create families of their own over the next few years, we hope to eventually be able to take in some younger children and give them the chance to have a hope and a future through the love, care and education that the Maisha home provides.
Finally, due to the rise of the cost of living in Kenya, we continue to struggle to raise the funds necessary for the general upkeep of the home and in particular to cover the school and higher education fees. Most of our college and university students commute every day from the home to their respective institutions, which adds to the financial strain.  We therefore continue to ask for your support and donations towards the children’s welfare, education and the general running of the home in the upcoming months and years.

Gratitude

Standing and staying at maisha's side for the many years that all of you have supported us is never something to be taken for granted. Lots of heartfelt gratitude to everyone who have come through in every way just to put a smile on the faces of the children and family. You are one of a kind, and may God continue to bless you all abundantly.

Asante Sana.
