"Mt. Everest base camp marks the beginning point for the legendary climb up the highest mountain in the world. While few can hope to attempt the real summit, trekking to the primary base camp is achievable and a challenge in itself. I plan on beginning my trek in a village called Jiri, then hiking to the Nepali base camp. Jiri marks the end of all roads in the Khumbu region, so from that point hiking is the only way up! I will begin a 16 day climb to the base camp and estimated 9 days to return back, reaching heights of 5643m at the viewpoint Kala Pathar.
My name is Krista Montgomery, I'm a 21 year old Irish/American currently living in Switzerland. I've been fortunate enough to be able to finance this trip before returning to my studies in the coming fall. After hiking in the Alps, Jura, Qionglai, and Colorado Rockies, I'm excited to take on this challenge, especially for the lovely organization maisha. I'll start in late June and finish mid July. Donations go directly to maisha and can be made online or alternatively make a direct transfer into the maisha account using the details on the right hand side of this page or get a pay slip from Krista!"
Congratulations Krista, so far you have raised Chf 160 for maisha!
