maisha is a non-profit association with the aim of using contributions for ongoing projects.
There are several ways in which you can contribute to maisha:
1) Purchase land & build a proper maisha home
The maisha home was originally built as a private house for Beatrice’s mother “ Mama Maisha”. This house has since been converted to become the maisha home and houses 25 people including the children and the employees. However, with limited space and housing both boys and girls, some of whom are reaching the teenage stage, we feel it is imperative to build a proper children’s home purposely designed to accommodate the childrens’ needs. An example of this is that currently there is only one bathroom for 25 people. Thanks to several generous donations from various individuals we have been able to buy 1250 square metres of land which now belongs to maisha and so our plan is now to build a proper maisha home in 2012.

2) Provide further education for our teenagers
Several of the older maisha children will complete their primary education at the end of 2011. Our plan is to enable them to continue to study at secondary school. While the CHF 40 that we receive from sponsors covers the childrens’ basic needs and the fees for primary education, secondary school fees are significantly higher. We are therefore looking for donors who would be willing to specifically sponsor a child’s further education. For those children that are less academic, we want to encourage them to learn a trade and will be looking to provide them with the necessary training in areas where they are gifted.

3) Find general sponsors to cover extra expenses
Our 20 maisha children currently all have sponsors who are covering their basic needs. However funds are needed to deal with emergencies and to cover all the extra costs that constantly arise eg. medical costs, replacing school uniforms, repairs etc. For this reason we are urgently looking for general sponsors who would be willing to support maisha by paying CHF 40 per month to ensure that the home runs smoothly.

4) Find specialized volunteers to help with the above projects
Maisha is looking for people with specialized skills to help implement our projects. If you think you could contribute in any way and would like to volunteer your time and skills, please contact us.
